These are gourd bowls (<em>xicalli</em>) that had to be provided in tributes. In a personal communication, Baltazar Brito Guadarrama suggested that these bowls were sent with the constructions workers to Mexico City so that they could dip them into larger containers of water with chia as they got thirsty during work days. Each flag below each bowl is meant to indicate 20 of that item. So, this detail would indicate a total of 60 gourd bowls. [SW]
