Bk. IV, f. 5v., full page of text

This page is back side of the fifth folio of sixteen folios (also Book IV, folio 5 verso). A full page of text, no images, this text again mentions don Antonio de Mendoza, the viceroy of New Spain (colonial Mexico), 1535-1550, referred to here as “our great ruler.” The emphasis is on how the local town founders “won the land,” probably meaning that they won official recognition of the local territory from the viceroy. Everything is to be set down here, the text continues, so that it will appear eternally. [SW]

Esta página es la contratapa del quinto de dieciséis folios. Una página entera de texto, sin imágenes, menciona a don Antonio de Mendoza, el Virrey de Nueva España (México Colonial) entre 1535 y 1550, referido aquí como “nuestro soberano.” El énfasis puesto en cómo los fundadores adquirieron las tierras, probablemente significa que obtuvieron reconocimiento oficial del territorio por parte del Virrey. Todo está documentado aquí, continúa el texto, para que quede registrado eternamente.
