entire face of one folio (pictorial and textual)

This page, which is the front face of the fourteenth folio of sixteen folios (also Book ViI, folio 2 recto), is typical of the image-heavy pages that feature landscapes included in these territorial claims of Santa María Iztacapan (modern State of Hidalgo, Mexico) late in the Spanish colonial period. This scene shows two peaks, one with three magueyes (agaves) on top, and the other with a bird (probably an eagle) on top, standing spread-eagle. A circle appears on the hill on our left. Everything is outlined in black. The magueyes are painted green. The eagle is painted a brownish-gold color. The hills have a light green and somewhat brown wash. [SW]
