This detail highlights the waterways: the river along the top, the channels of water that were diverted to the mills, and their drainage channels or effluent. Three mills appear on this landscape. Fish swim in the waterways, even coming out of the mills. The direction that the fish swim may be an indicator of the directional flow of the water. The fish are white and the water is painted blue. The mills are simply black and white. Each mill has a slightly different appearance from the other two.
