Militarized ritual relating to the taking of power in Teozacoalco from an outside dynasty from Tilantongo.
The young new ruler of Teozacoalco, 2-Dog Flint Rope and his wife, 6-Reed Feathered Serpent, from Tilantongo (on the left), travel to Teozacoalco in 1321. He carries the bow and arrows. The seven lords who come to meet them are seven nobles from Teozacoalco. They carry shields and macanas. This all suggests a context of war, but really it is a ceremony involving the taking of possession, a formal ritual (somewhat militarized) that was carried out when a new governor from outside the dynasty was coming to power. The scene is similar to the recognition given to the lords 2-Rain Wind Jaguars (the final governor of the first dynasty of Tilantongo) and 8-Deer Jaguar Claw (the first governor of the second dynasty) in the lower part of the geneaology of Tilantongo. Receiving the "taking of power" ritual of 8-Deer is also represented in the Nutall (pp 53–68) and Colombino (pp. 15–17) codices.
The couple on the left, 2-Dog Flint Rope and 6-Reed Feathered Serpent, founded the third ruling dynasty at Teozacoalco after the death of the governor 9-Movement and his wife, 2-Jaguar. This latter couple were childless, which is what caused a dynastic crisis in Teozacoalco, leading to this influx of new leadership after 9-Movement and 2-Jaguar were dead. The sister of 9-Movement, the Lady 4-Rabbit, got marriedn in Zaachila and had two children. One of these (the nephew of 9_movement) was this 2-Dog Flint Rope, who came to take control of the government at Teozacoalco. [Translation from the Spanish. SW]
"Lo que estás viendo en el mapa es el traslado del joven 2-Perro Soga de Pedernales y su esposa 6-Caña Serpiente Emplumada de Tilantongo a Teozacoalco in 1321 AD. Ellos eran los fundadores de la tercera dinastía de Teozacoalco, después de la muerte del gobernante 9-Movimiento y su esposa 2-Jaguar.
