text in Spanish about Teozacualco lords

This is one of several glosses on the document that allowed Alfonso Caso to make the connection with colonial administrative documents from the Mixteca and thus to “decipher” the document. The expression “señor natural” encompassed a concept from Spanish medieval thought that stressed “natural” rule as being legitimate and just, recognized and obeyed by his vassals and acknowledged by his peers, and in accordance with divine, natural and human law (Chamberlain, 1939). It was applied by Spanish officials to the Mesoamerican rulers during the sixteenth century.
