4, top: men and birds

This is the top scene on the double register with the number 4, showing two indigenous men standing and two birds. The men wear sandals and the loose cotton clothing typical of the Spanish colonial era. Their hands are at about waist height or higher and appear to be gesturing, which may be an indicator of a social or political status. The man on the left has especially long black hair; the man on the right possibly not as long. The birds are disproportionately large compared to the men. Their appearance may have something to do with the name of this place. The text, with the exception of a few letters in the upper left corner, has been reinforced with a dark black ink; errors may have been introduced in the process. [SW]
