indigenous men carrying Spanish woman

Here we see indigenous men carrying a pole from which a woman (the wife of the alguacil, a Spanish colonial official) in a hammock lies suspended. Two of the men are crying, presumably upset with this service requirement. A small portion of the woman’s facial profile and her right hand are barely visible above the top of the hammock. Additional heads of indigenous males appear to refer to the larger numbers of men who were required to do this kind of work. [SW]
