center of San Pedro Tlahuac
This detail represents the principal settlement, San Pedro Tlahuac (originally, Cuitlahuac). The gloss appears right below the friary. The friary and other buildings are painted red, which may have been the case in the sixteenth century. The principal church has a bell tower. The main entrance is an arch. The entrance to the friary today has an arch shape.
Still, as Richard Conway states, the church serves as an emblem for the town and might not be meant to be representative of the actual church that is there. [SW]
