church with bell tower

Laura Rodríguez Cano (2015: 105, 107) suggests that this functions as a separate toponym, possibly read Veheñuhu (from vehe-, “house,” and –ñuhu , “god”), and attested in Colonial Mixtec as a word for church. The events taking place in the accompanying scene date to the pre-Columbian era, but may have occurred at a place that, in the colonial period, was associated with Christian architecture.
