seated lady, Yañoccoty
This figure represents ”yañoccoty.” This Mixtec personal is a calendrical name meaning “Lady 6 Vulture.” The posture and hairdo of the woman is characteristic of Aztec-style depictions of females, and suggest that the painter of the mapa may have been trained in the Valley of Mexico. Yañoccoty is the wife of Yacañoho.
