indigenous male noble seated

This seated indigenous noble bears the name don Francisco, his ethnicity is Aquiahualca (which may also serve as part of his name), and he has the title “teutli” (teuctli, lord). He wears a dark-colored cape with a special weave or subtle print pattern. It is tied at the neck. He also has bands around his lower legs, and sandals that tie at the top of the foot. He carries a weapon (possibly a macana or maquahuitl) with diagonal line decorations and six rectangular points along the edges (possibly obsidian blades?). Near the weapon are what appear to be sound scrolls. Perhaps these represent speech that has come from his mouth, or perhaps they represent sound coming from the weapon. In his left hand the man holds a ritual device. The man also has earplugs and a headdress. The headdress has three long green feathers attached to a device that stands up at the back of his head. The headdress is tied above his forehead. [SW]
