Chicomoztoc

Chicomoztoc

This detail features a glyph for the place name Chicomoztoc, which Gemelli translates as the “seven grots.” By “grots” (as in grotto) he was referring to caves. Seven Caves is now the commonly accepted English translation. The Nahuatl language elements are chicome, seven, and oztotl, cave. The final -c is a locative. This site has two numerical components (seven dots and eight dots). [SW]
