Culhua King

Culhua King

In this detail from the map we see two men bringing offerings to the king of the Culhua, “Coxcox,” (short for Cocoxtli). Cocox is a nocturnal bird, which explains the glyph above the king’s head. The symbol behind the king is the mountain with the curved top, which is the glyph for Culhuacan. The men, wearing red capes tied at the shoulder, carry plates (perhaps with food), and they both have unique name glyphs above their heads. [SW]
