tribute items: cloths

These tribute items appearing at the bottom of the manuscript, are represented with fourteen dots above a hand-woven cloth item, which has been identified as fourteen capotes (capes or cloaks), which would have been tilmatli in Nahuatl. The cloths, which would would have been hand woven, have geometrical patterns (what Spaniards would call “grecas”) and red and white stripes. The elaborate designs and the red color (possibly from cochineal dye) would have added to their value.
