San Juan

San Juan

This detail shows the church, emblematic of the indigenous community of San Juan, slightly north and east of Toluca. It is probably the neighborhood of San Juan Buenavista today. The church has shading on the north side of the building. The main door is tall, curved at the top, and light. There is a bell tower on the roof, curved at the top, and it has a cross at the very top. The atrium is enclosed with what appears to be a wall of adobe bricks or stone. Near the opening to the atrium, we see a detail that appears to be like a rubric or a flourish of a pen. [SW]
