This is a detail, appearing in Book V, folio 1 verso, of the two women named in the text on the same page — doña Ana and doña María Cortés, two indigenous women dressed in the clothing of the Spanish colonial era, made of white cotton cloth. They both wear long tunics that reach to their knees, and below that, floor-length skirts. The women are outlined in black. Their skin is washed with a flesh-tone watercolor. They are both gesturing with their hands, suggestive of some degree of authority. [SW]
