four trees
This is a detail of four trees outlined in black and washed with a blue-green watercolor appearing in Book VII, folio 3 recto. The roots of three of them appear above ground; from the contextual view we know that the one with fewer roots visible is on the water’s edge, which may explain why they are obscured. These trees are tall and narrow. They have a fuller look than the tall thin trees that might be palms (in Book IV, folio 1r). The foliage consists of simple hash marks in black ink; branches are not clearly delineated. [SW]

Detalle de cuatro árboles delineados en negro y coloreados con acuarelas azul-verde. Las raíces de los tres aparecen por encima de la tierra desce el punto de vista contextual, sabemos que, el que tiene menos raíses visibles está en la orilla del agua, lo que puede explicar por qué se oculta. Los árboles son altos y angostos. Tienen más follaje que las palmeras (en el Libro IV, folio 1r). El follaje consiste de marcas en tinta negra; las ramas no están claramente delineadas.
