f. 19r., gloss (”tlatzontecoyan’)

This is the gloss that identifies the building as the courthouse (”tlatzontecoyan” in Nahuatl). Most Nahua notaries ca. 1700 would be calling such buildings by the Spanish loanwords, sala de audiencia o el cabildo. So this use of the Nahuatl term is a little unusual and may represent an effort to privilege Nahuatl over Spanish, as an expression of indigenous revivalism. [SW]
